A Brief History of Forbes Printing Company


May 15th 1984- Esley H. Forbes III purchases “the Printing House” of Lenoir with minority partner Diana Bost. Esley has 25 years experience in the printing industry. Both leave Clay Printing of Hickory to take on this new venture.  Originally established in 1953 by Charles B. Pegram. (6 total employees at this point)

1985- The Printing House moves across the street to its current location - a much larger building – former location of the Dixie Home Grocery. The Company expanded with new equipment and more employees.

1989- Name changes to Forbes Printing coinciding with building expansion adding office and warehouse space – new equipment – more employees. 

1990- Forbes Printing purchases Western Carolina Typesetting. Caldwell County Chamber Small Business of the Year Award, the first of many community and industry awards to come.

1991-2004- Growth continues as we embrace the technological changes of the 1990's. Expanded press capacity, added binding & finishing capacity, and additional office & warehouse space highlight this era. Stephen Forbes becomes president in the new millenium, after being with the company since 1985. Thanks to our experienced, professional management & staff, along with our loyal customers, we continued to thrive & grow with the new century.

2005- Forbes Printing becomes an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company. 100% Employee owned while maintaining the same Forbes family management that has steered the course for over 20 years.

Today Forbes Printing has modern offset presses producing award winning graphics products for a variety of industries and diverse customer base nationwide. We now have approximately  30 full time employees.
